Transition is the term used to describe the process of affirming your true-sex — in this case for those who know themselves to be male but were identified female at their birth.

Transition is a process. It is a combination of social (name change), medical (physical treatment) such as hormone replacement therapy (testosterone treatment) and surgeries (sex affirmation surgery), and legal (legal document corrections) actions.

In reality, transition often begins before any physical changes. Many people use the term 'transitioning' to refer to the entire process of the sex-affirmation process. Some men consider the completion of the medical process, as the completion of transition. Others consider transition to conclude with genital sex surgery, while others consider transition to be a never-ending process. For each person, the process of transition is slightly different.

This section of this website deals with the medical aspects of transition, which usually varies slightly from person to person.

Social aspects of transition can include a name change, wearing clothing seen as gender appropriate, dislosure to loved ones — all which can be carried out prior to any kind of medical treatment.
