pdf document Reandron1000® consumer medicines information. (Schering PDF)

Description

  • Reandron Injection '1000' contains 1000 mg testosterone undecanoate (TU) in 4 mL oily solution for intramuscular injection and is indicated for use as testosterone replacement therapy for primary and secondary male hypogonadism.
  • Manufactured by the Australian Subsidiary of Schering AG.

Availability

A doctor's prescription is required to obtain this medication.

General Information

  • Reandron® 1000 provides long-lasting testosterone levels (about 12 weeks from a single injection). The testosterone is released slowly so that men do not experience the peaks and troughs that are common with standard injections.
  • The first 3-monthly testosterone injection is now available on the PBS (Authority Required) from 1 August 2006. Following the initial injection a second injection is given at 6 weeks and then approximately every 12 weeks thereafter.
  • This form of treatment is not appropriate in men who have bleeding disorders (or who are taking blood thinning medication).

Australian PBS

Authority required when prescribed to males through the Australian PBS.
Androgen deficiency in males with established pituitary or testicular disorders
Androgen deficiency in males 40 years and older who do not have established pituitary or testicular disorders other than aging, confirmed by at least 2 morning blood samples taken on different mornings. Androgen deficiency is confirmed by testosterone less than 8 nmol per L, or 8-15 nmol per L with high LH (greater than 1.5 times the upper limit of the eugonadal reference range for young men).
Micropenis, pubertal induction, or constitutional delay of growth or puberty, in males under 18 years of age.
