pdf document Primoteston Depot®consumer medicines information. (Schering PDF)

Description

  • Injection 250 mg in 1 mL
  • Each 1 mL of Primoteston Depot '250' contains testosterone enanthate in castor oil.
  • Manufactured by the Australian Subsidiary of Schering AG.

Availability

A doctor's prescription is required to obtain this medication.

General Information

  • Primoteston Depot® should be administered by deep intramuscular (i.m.) injection, usually into the buttock.
  • Treatment may be started on a lower dose (100 mg) but 250 mg injections are standard treatment. Injection intervals are usually 2 to 3 weeks depending upon the dose needed and the response that is achieved. Shorter injection intervals may be necessary depending on the individual requirement for hormone, but longer intervals of up to 6 weeks are also sufficient in many cases.
  • Experience shows some men may find the injections painful and wish to consider other forms of treatment. Sometimes this can be helped by warming the ampoule under a running warm water tap or rolling quickly between the palms. Occasionally some men experience short-lasting reactions (urge to cough, coughing fits, respiratory distress) in rare cases during or immediately after the injection, this can be avoided by injecting the solution extremely slowly.
  • Long-term administration of testosterone occasionally increases the tendency to water retention. Caution should therefore be exercised in patients predisposed to water retention.
  • Testosterone injections should be avoided in men with bleeding disorders, including those men taking anticoagulants (blood thinning medication).
