General
Information
|
- Testosterone
Implants are inserted under the
skin into the lower abdominal wall or
buttock by a doctor experienced in this
procedure. Local anaesthetic is applied
and a small cut is made in the skin
before the implant is inserted and the
wound is dressed afterwards. The
implant usually lasts between 4 and 6
months. The doctor will perform
periodic blood tests to make sure that
the implants are working correctly and
not having adverse effects.
- The
implants are small 'pellets' (about 1
cm in length and each containing 200
mg). Most men will need three or four
200 mg pellets implanted each
time.
- The
usual starting dose is 150 milligrams
to 450 milligrams (2 to 6 pellets)
implanted by your doctor every 3 to 6
months.
- About
10% of the pellets will work their way
to the surface of the skin and are
eventually pushed out. Contact your
doctor if you notice any of the pellets
coming out, or if you have an infection
with redness, swelling, or
pus.
- Implants
are one way to begin treatment
slowly.
