  • Testerone is found in both male and female bodies.
  • The average male body has about ten times more testosterone than the average female body.
  • Testosterone tends to be identified with all we stereotype as masculine.
  • The production of synthetic testosterone in 1935 earnt Butenandt and Ruzicka the 1935 Nobel Prize in Chemistry.
  • The average female body produces testosterone naturally in the ovaries (part of the female reproductive system) and adrenals (above the kidneys).
  • The most common effects of injected testosterone in both sexes include increased facial and body hair, oily skin or acne, male pattern baldness, water retention, joint stiffness, and soreness at the injection site.
  • Testosterone was first taken from a bull in 1935.
  • Testosterone has two different effects on the body.
    Anabolic - which promotes growth and muscle building; and
    Androgenic - which act on the genitals, reproductive system and development of male secondary sex characteristics such as deepening of the voice and growth of facial hair.
  • There is little evidence that “male menopause” exists.
