2005 Product Information Sheet Reandron 1000®
Description
Reandron Injection ’1000′ contains 1000mg testosterone undecanoate (TU) in 4mL oily solution for intramuscular injection and is indicated for use as testosterone replacement therapy for primary and secondary male hypogonadism. Manufactured by the Australian Subsidiary of Schering AG.
Availability
- A doctor’s prescription is required to obtain this medication.
- Available on Authority Prescription to legal males on the Australian Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS).
General Information
- Reandron1000® provides long-lasting testosterone levels (about 12 weeks from a single injection). The testosterone is released slowly so that men do not experience the peaks and troughs that are common with standard injections.
- This 3-monthly testosterone injection became available from 1 August 2006.
- After the first injection, a second injection is given at 6 weeks and then approximately every 12 weeks (3 months) thereafter.
- This form of treatment is not appropriate in men who have bleeding disorders (or who are taking blood thinning medication).
- Some men prefer to inject 2mL in two different locations rather than the full 4mL in the one location.
