I’ve been on full dose testosterone for a month and I think I’ve put weight on around my belly. What’s happening?

You’ve been on testosterone long enough for your body-fat to start redistributing around your body.

The average female tends to accumulate adipose tissue (body fat) around her hips, buttocks, and thighs, while the average male tends to accumulate body fat around his abdomen. Hence the classic female ‘pear’ shape and the male ‘apple’ shape. Your ethnicity also plays a role in your fat distribution.

Your body needs fat to maintain your body health, but excess body fat increases the your risk of developing heart disease, diabetes, breast cancer and perhaps even premature death,

The best thing you can do is start some good eating habits for yourself along with an exercise regime you can easily continue into the future. If you’re really concerned, it might be worth your while having a chat with a dietician or someone who can help you lose that abdominal fat.
