NZ music month was last month, hitting
NZ in a wave of new releases, live performances
and upcoming tours, with the music popular in Oz
too with bands such as goodnight nurse doing a
school tour around the country.
With Brooke Fraser's tour working
wonders to the ears of kiwis up and down
Aotearoa, the release of her new album is
claiming great reviews both in NZ and Oz land.
Almost everyone in New Zealand knows Brooke
Fraser as a 19 year-old singer-songwriter
from Wellington whose debut album What To Do
With Daylight catapulted her into the charts
with four number one radio hits and sales
exceeding seven times platinum. Her second
album Albertine is the sound, three years
on from that - and I'm not afraid to say that
you can hear the difference. For amazing
acoustic, soothing music, and lyrics described
as 'soulful beyond her years' you cant do better
than this, personally rated 5 stars for every
single song on both albums.
The music scene in Oz is kicking off all over
the country with plenty of upcoming music
festivals up and down the country, ranging from
jazz festivals to tours of rock bands, something
for everyone and too many too name in this short
article. Amazing Australian musicians, and bands
are performing to appreciative audiences, and
overseas artists visiting the land down under.

For your marvellous, information hungry
brains, some random music trivia to enlighten
your day. Guitar probably comes from the word
kithara, which was the principal stringed
instrument of the ancient Greeks and later of
the Romans. The kithara was played with a
plectrum; it was a larger and stronger form of
the lyre. The dinosaur, Cryolophosaurus, was at
one point informally known as the Elvisaurus,
due to the resemblance to Elvis Presley's
pompadour haircut in the 1950s. The group
Spandau Ballet got their name from a piece of
graffiti seen by Robert Elms on a Berlin Loo
wall. Wow, rather strange stuff, and now you
know it!
