Haris's
original name was Kadicha. He was born as a girl
in 1926 - the baby was the eighth child in the
family. The little girl was born having both
women's and men's genitals. Needless to say that
it was a totally outstanding event in the small
town. The parents decided to register their
child as a girl.
"When I turned seven, I started noticing that
I did not look like other people. Women would
dash away and point their fingers at me in the
bath house. I did not act like a girl. I fought
with other kids, played football," Haris
remembers.
The girl's breasts started growing together
with penis during the adolescent phase. The
child was suffering from such a horrible
physical defect, but there was no adequate
medical specialist in the neighborhood.
"Eventually I decided to ignore my excessive
genitals. Actually, I became a pretty girl, when
I turned 17 years old. All my friends envied my
gorgeous hair! I had white skin, no stubble, no
beard. I used to wear make up for dance parties
too," Haris said.
When Kadicha turned 20, she had her first
love affair with a boy. The boy fell in love
with her, but he knew nothing about the girl's
peculiarity. "I was so afraid of sex! We
eventually got married, but when he saw, who I
actually was, his family kicked me out of their
house. After that I decided that I had more male
character traits in me. I cut my hair short, we
gave away my women's clothes to our neighbors.
Finally, I told everybody that my new name was
Haris. On the whole, I decided to be a man. I
got the true men's profession too - I drove a
tractor."
Young widow Nurgalam Gilmetdinova moved to
Haris's town soon after that. Haris developed a
fondness for the new resident and they started
dating. "I liked him a lot indeed. But when
people told me about his secret, I was really
scared. I decided to stay away from him for a
while. When a week passed, I realized that I
could not live without him. My father blessed
our marriage," Nurgalam said.
Haris Kamalov became a perfect husband: he
neither drank, nor smoked; he was a hard-working
person too. Haris and Hurgalam could not
register their marriage, though, because Haris
was officially registered as a woman.
"I could have changed my passport, but it was
all about red tape. I am still listed as a
woman," Haris says.
"When he was young, he was very good as a
man. He was very gentle and caressing in bed. He
had women's bosom, yes, but it did not bother
me.
Nobody has seen it, but me after all. Haris
has never cheated on me - that's the most
important thing! We cannot have children, it is
true, but this is the will of Allah," Nurgalam
said
