The Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade issues passports, both in Australia and overseas, to be used as evidence of identity and citizenship by Australians who are travelling internationally, in accordance with the provisions of the Australian Passports Act 2005 and other legislation..

Passport application forms are available from from External linkyour local Post Office
or External linkdownload an Application Form online.

Applications should be personally lodged at an Australia Post office or directly at the Australian Passport Office.
To find the nearest Australia Post office that will accept your passport application, External linkvisit their website.
An appointment may be necessary.

You will be able to obtain a passport in your correct male sex once your birth certificate has been corrected. If you have changed your name, your legal change of name documentation is also required.
