All states and territories in Australia have some legislation covering correction of birth certificates.

Most require at least two letters to certify that you have undergone irreversible treatment as part of your sex affirmation. One of these is can be chest reconstructive surgery which can be certified by your surgeon. The other irreversible procedure can be testosterone hormone treatment which can be certified by your treating endocrinologist. Legislation in some states require removal of female reproductive organs.

Men who have undergone irreversible sex affirmation procedures, are eligible for a correction of their legal sex as evidenced by their birth certificate. The website for the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry for your state or territory can give you information on how to do this.

Below you will find the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registry for your state or territory. Follow the links titled amend certificate, birth information, other services, sexual reassignment, or sex affirmation for more information.
