Under
Northern Territory legislation a person
- who is 18 years or older,
- born in the Northern Territory and
- who has undergone sexual reassignment
surgery
can apply to the NT
Registar of Births, Deaths and Marriages
to change their legal sex on their birth
certificate.
An application to alter the register to
record a change of legal sex must be accompanied
by a statutory declaration from each of two
doctors verifying that the person in respect of
whom the application is made has undergone
sexual reassignment surgery or a Recognition
Certificate (eg., from South Australia) is
approved as an alternative form of evidence
verifying that the person who is the subject of
an application has undergone sexual reassignment
surgery.
